Now What?

Now What?

            WHAT NOW?

I’ve read many other books similar to this one and some of the authors were skeptics of the Bible and Jesus at first.  They started researching to disprove God’s existence and Christianity, but instead they became believers.

I am not like these authors, I doubted God’s existence only a few times in my life.  These facts have never helped me to believe in God at all.  No help was ever needed.  God has made Himself well known in my life because I persistently sought after Him.

God speaks to me in spirit as He does to billions of other people.  To explain, it’s known by many Christians that when God speaks to people it’s a not a voice but a message given to our spirit that is undeniably not from our own minds.  The more often a person prays, the more often God speaks to them.

Praying is as simple as telling God what’s on your mind.  You can just think of Him in your mind instead of talking out loud.  Ask Him questions, or just think of Him if you’ve got nothing to say.  You don’t have to keep a conversation going the whole time.  Saying the right words is just telling Him what you feel like and how things are going in your life.  Talk to God like you would to a good friend.  And reciting elaborate prayers is pointless.

Just talk to Him and read the Bible slowly.  Many people prefer to read the Bible during prayer.  You could start with a half hour a day.  Is a half hour or more without TV such torture?  TV is just annoying commercials half the time anyways.  And the other half is just fake reality shows.

Go to a park or a forest preserve and take a walk while talking with God.  I promise that a half hour without TV or music won’t kill you.

Don’t try to read a King James Bible either.  Others versions are even easier to read with the same message.  Different versions still say exactly the same thing.  I suggest to get an NIV Version.  And you should start with the book of John towards the beginning of the New Testament.  That should be easy to remember since my name is Jon.

Reading the Bible is the best way to get God to speak to you.  If you want to hear from God, start with the Bible, then just talk with God regularly about how things are going in your life.  He already knows everything but wants to hear it directly from you.  If you could tell that your friend was feeling upset or happy, wouldn’t they talk about it instead of just keeping it to themselves.  So do the same with God.

No matter who you are, when you pick up a Bible, every excuse in the world will come to mind for something else you really need to do instead.  Try a scientific experiment to read the Bible and see if your mind starts getting anxious to stop.

If you already do this and really want to hear something great from God, I would suggest fasting from food for a day or even a few days.  I would also highly recommend fasting on your Birthday, Thanks Giving, or Christmas.  Everyone forgets about God on these days and He will bless you for it, I promise!

As for the nervous feelings you get about what people might think about you reading the Bible, praying, or going to church.  That’s all in your head.  People always think that everyone they know is going to point their finger and laugh at them.  That’s just not true.  Instead people will ENVY your courage to do that and look at you differently in a good way.  They’ll respect you for having more courage than they do, since they ignore God for the same exact reason.

Try visiting different churches and find one where they focus on the Bible and you feel God present.  If you ever have questions about something that you don’t understand just ask one of the pastors.  There’re a few different pastors for every church.  And don’t expect everyone in church to be perfect, you’re not perfect either.

I recommend not to live by your feelings.  Many people come to God and get frustrated because He doesn’t show up to make them feel good.  Although they come to God with good intentions, deep down they just want Him to give that supernatural touch.  He’ll hold back if your intentions are selfish.  Stop trying to get God to bless you.  Instead why don’t you bless God with your thoughts and time.  Stop the attitude of God having to prove Himself as being present for you to talk with Him.  Start having regular conversations first and He’ll speak to you.

When the Bible says, “Anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus will be saved.”  The word believe also signifies “to have a relationship”.  So try having a relationship with God.

As for the last minute “sorry” idea on your death bed, that’s just planning how to trick God.  Nor does the Bible teach that once you’ve been forgiven, you can just do whatever you want.  Repentance and faith (relationship) are an everyday way of life.

I don’t obey God in every way, but so what?  Should I give up all together on making an effort?  No.  The Bible says, If you love God, you’ll obey His commands.  Well I disobey many commands, but I’m not giving up on God.

Having a relationship with God is more important than not sinning!  Don’t give up because you make constant mistakes.  Don’t mope around and have a pity party for yourself.  You have to control those thoughts and feelings.  You have to be determined and make a real effort.  You have to push everyone and everything out of your way to get time alone with God.  Distractions from “God time” are everywhere.  Ditch your family, friends, or TV to get away for an hour or so.  Then just speak your mind with God and don’t let anything stop you.  If you really want to hear from God, then start having a relationship with Him.

God is real!  So choose to do something about it.  He’s not only real to me.  I chased after God and showed Him persistence and He has truly rewarded me for this.  Anyone else can do the same.

I have no fear of death because I know my Creator.  When bad things happen in my life, I just don’t even care anymore.  The Creator of this universe has made Himself real to me in so many ways.  I’m honestly not trying to convince you with these words, don’t take it that way.  I’m just bragging about how great my life is.

What’s so great in your life that you’d refuse knowing your Creator?  Friends come and go and we run out of things in common.  Possessions cost too much and we always want new ones.  Love fades or hardly lasts at all nowadays.  Success takes a lifetime of hard work, but a relationship with God lasts forever and never gets old.

            PRAYER

Don’t feel like you need to read the Bible and pray every day.  That’s definitely the ideal goal, but instead focus more on quality time.  Focus more on having a real relationship.  Would you hang out with a friend of yours for exactly 1hr and then leave?  So it’ll be more quality time spent if you pray without a time limit.  Some days you can just read the Bible and some days you might just want to speak with God the whole time.  Don’t pray like it’s a ritual.

Don’t beat yourself up because you missed a day of prayer.  Don’t feel like you need an exact dose of 1hr per day.  And don’t look at a clock before and during prayer time.  Seriously, don’t set any time limit at all.  Find a quiet place without distractions or clocks.  Forest preserves and parks are the best spots.

Treat your prayer time like a relationship with a best friend.  You may not visit your best friend every day, but when you do I doubt that you’d be watching a clock the whole time.

When you have a day off work coming up, set aside some time for God.  Spend a decent part of your day reading the Bible and telling God what’s on your mind.  Plan ahead to make it happen.  I treat my whole day off like a short vacation with a best friend.  And when I plan a whole day with God, He shows up and speaks to me.

Why would God want to drop what He’s doing to visit you when all you’re doing is looking at a stopwatch waiting for it to be over?  How would your friend feel if you did that every time you got together?  God knows our deepest thoughts and motives.  Those who pray with a set time limit don’t experience God in prayer like I do.  I learned that the hard way from experience.  And chances are that whatever else you want to do isn’t that important anyways.  Now that I don’t look at clocks or care about time, God shows up every single time.

Don’t just ask God for favors the whole prayer time.  And don’t say or think the words that you think sound good.  That’s like talking about the weather with someone you don’t know well.  Go deeper and tell God your innermost thoughts and what’s really on in your mind.

You can also just quietly think about God if you have nothing to say.  There’s no need to keep a constant conversation going.  The definition of meditate is: “to think deeply or focus one’s mind on something for a period of time in silence”.  This is another way to pray.  My definition of meditate is: “to clear your mind of everything and just focus on God”.  So just meditate on God.

            THE SIX MOST COMMON MISTAKES

If you talk with God but don’t hear from Him you might be doing something wrong.  These are the practices that make God speak to people.  If God doesn’t speak to other people (including atheists), then these are the reasons why.

The 1st most common mistake is thinking that God isn’t listening.  He is, so just be persistent and don’t give up.  Spend time telling God what’s on your mind.  People often try talking with God for a few days but then they give up because God didn’t speak to them.  God will speak to you if you pray regularly.

The 2nd most common mistake is that you haven’t been reading the Bible.  It is the word of God.  It inspires us through stories that apply to our lives and it has wisdom for daily situations.  The Bible is alive, but only if you read it.  Sometimes I’ll read the Bible for a few days instead of praying to let it soak in.  Then afterwards God always speaks to me.

The 3rd most common mistake people make during prayer is not giving thanks to God.  The Bible says to “give thanks in all things.”  It does not say to BE thankful.  It says to give thanks for everything even if you don’t have the nicest car, the biggest bank account, the best job, and so on.  Tell God that you’re grateful for everything happening in your life good or bad.

The 4th most common mistake people make during prayer is caused by the lack of worship.  Finding good worship music is easy nowadays.  But you still have to press the play button and worship.  And you don’t have to sing out loud.  You can just think in your mind.  You can also worship God by just thinking about how much he’s done for you or all of humanity.  You can think of how powerful He is to have designed this entire universe.  You can also tell God how He is merciful, generous, forgiving, wise, righteous, holy, perfect, powerful, and so on.  Give detailed examples.  The Creator of this universe does expect to be honored and worshiped.

The 5th most common mistake people make regarding prayer is not fasting.  God requires a sacrifice for sin just like God requires a sacrifice of fasting once in a while.  Fasting isn’t just to not eat food for a few days.  Some people fast from TV, candy, internet, or whatever else is a sacrifice for you.  You can choose to fast for a few days or a few weeks.  God will be pleased with any sacrifice you make.  If you fast, God WILL bless you for it.  Fasting can be done while going about your life as usual, but I only fast if I’m not working so I can spend the whole day with God.  Although it’s not necessary, fasting is better if you’re going to spend the entire time talking with God and reading the Bible.

I’ve done a few 40 day fasts and they were absolutely incredible.  It’s a completely life changing experience.  You will never be the same afterwards.  I could not stop hearing from God constantly!  I mean it, I couldn’t even sleep without God waking me up numerous times to speak to me.  God told me to write this book during a 40 day fast.

As for the hunger, the first 1-2 weeks are really hard, but after that it’s extremely easy.  After 2 weeks, you’ll lose any desire for food.  All you need to do is constantly drink healthy fluids like different soup broths, protein shakes, water, and juices.  Don’t drink pop, caffeine, or unhealthy fluids.  Every 40 day fast I did consisted of me failing at least 10 times for each fast.  I repeatedly failed after 2 days, 3 days, 5 days, 10 days, 12 days, and so on until I broke the 2 week mark and had no more hunger.  I failed so many times but just kept trying.  Doing a 40 day fast will completely change your life.  And if you think that you know God well but have never taken time to fast and pray, you’re mistaken.

The 6th most common mistake people make during their relationship with God is witnessing.  If your prayer life is lacking, this will turbo boost your prayer life dramatically.  God wants us to spread the word of how He effects our lives.  Just being nice to someone who’s in a bad mood is a form of witnessing.

There are many other ways to witness to people.  In fact every piece of information in this book can be used for witnessing conversations.  Nobody wants to hear someone quote John 3:16.  Talk about science and the universe.  People love those conversations.  If every Christian had the knowledge that’s in this book, there would be no atheists.  They would be extinct.

Also check out my other book called God is Cool.  It will definitely give you whole new perspective on life.  It can be found on Amazon.com or Godexistsbook.com.

In case you haven’t noticed, this book is in complete agreement with modern science besides for a few theories.  And arguing about evolution is a complete waste of time.  Most people will not take someone seriously if they’re trying to disprove evolution.  I already explained that the Bible never speaks against it.  But if Christians could just accept it, then they’d have time to discuss God’s existence instead of boring fossils.  Then they could quote real scientific facts regarding God’s existence.  This is the best way to spread faith besides for love and kindness.

It’s one thing to not believe in evolution.  I’m not fully convinced myself.  But to declare that it’s all a lie is wrong.  All a person accomplishes by doing that is promoting atheism.  Anyone who’s taken a biology class may be convinced of evolution.  But when a Christian contradicts science and waves a Bible around, it looks like Christianity is wrong.  Just because a Christian person may not believe in evolution doesn’t mean they should declare it’s absolutely false.  Evolution is not proof of atheism.  It’s proof that Moses was correct in describing the exact order of evolution 3,500 years ago.

And for those who don’t believe in evolution.  What’s your excuse going to be when NASA finds bacteria on Mars in the underground water reservoir?  Anti-evolutionists just make Christianity appear to contradict science.  God might’ve made the laws of science for life to evolve.  So just admit that evolution might be true if you’re not convinced.

Talk to people you know about this book you read that’s interesting and scientific in explaining life and evolution.  Get them interested by quoting some facts.  The Universe and Spiritual Evidence chapters always get people’s attention.  Tell them it really got you thinking.  Give them a subliminal message by saying, “I know you’d really find it interesting.”  Then offer to give them your copy with it already in your hand so you can pressure them to take it.  This book can also be read for free at Godexistsbook.com.  Do whatever it takes.  Do atheists play fair spreading lies?  Then maybe we should work harder to expose those lies and spread this information.  I think Christians have misunderstood the meaning of this one verse that Jesus said, “The violent take the kingdom of heaven by force.”  And I intend on being violent (aggressive).

This is a book you can just open to any page and still come closer to believing in God.  I pass out advertisements at restaurants, grocery stores, houses, parked cars, or anywhere else I go.  If someone tells me not to, I do it anyways.  The public needs to know that there is a Creator and that we have more evidence for God than the amount of “nothing” that atheism has.

Be creative.  Must God think of everything?  Start giving God orders on what plans you want Him to bless.  God gives me orders, but I give them back sometimes by demanding that He helps spread this information.  Don’t wait for God to do something through you.  Why don’t you do something through God?  Why does He always have to lead for us to follow?  Try leading the way yourself, and then let Him follow you.  He will.

God is good to many people.  But not to others, because they don’t understand the evidence of His existence or how to have a relationship with Him.

I think of this book as an advertisement for God and the Bible while also educating the public.  God told me to write this book many years ago during a 40 day fast.  He also gave me a message to pass on to everyone who reads this book: Read the Bible!
